As I said in my last post, I wanted to do a separate entry for his "birthday party". Sure, it was 10 days early, but it's not every day that Grampa, Gramma, Carol and Sammy all happen to be in town around someone's birthday. Thanks for being a federal holiday, Presidents' Day! We decided to celebrate on Sunday night before Scott left for work - because nothing gets you ready for a long night like birthday cake. It was pretty awesome to have everyone there, especially since my SI Joint issues decided to flare up and I basically couldn't walk/move for almost the entire weekend. So a HUGE thanks to my mom who made the cake.
this is our little guy with Grampa - he's excited, but has no clue just how awesome his life is going to get
Since our birthday boy is a lover of all things chocolate AND love cream cheese, choosing which cake we would make was kind of a no brainer. Bruce got himself Best Friend Cake. It's a magical chocolate cake covered in cream cheese frosting.
It's a big recipe and you get an entire mini-loaf in addition to the bundt pan, making it ideal for 1st birthdays
The only snafu was when Matilda realized that we were lighting a cake for Bruce and not for her. She was definitely NOT a happy camper, and since it's Bruce's 1st birthday and he'll have no memory of this, we decided to make OUR lives easier.
Poor little bug! Where's HER cake?
Tears averted
Finally, it was time for Bruce. We sang the whole Mathusek Birthday Song and my heart was happy. Mom sort of helped blow out the candle and then we handed it over to the Chubba. I'll let the pictures speak from here on out...
{this one is my personal favorite}
Eventually dad had to leave, but Scott took extra care and was able to leave without getting too much cake on his scrubs
I had been on the couch all weekend, but I want to have pictures of me with my kids. It's not always pretty, but it's important. Too bad the only decent picture I got had Bruce looking away.
Seriously, you choose to look ridiculously cute when I'm making THIS face and have no chin? Sacrifices, people. The things we do for our kids and in the name of "memories"
As partners in crime, no one was surprised to see Hoss enjoying Bruce's cast-offs. They have a symbiotic relationship. On an unrelated note, it seems I've managed to remember at least ONE science lesson.
Ever the generous boy, he was willing to share with everyone. We passed.
There was a LOT of milk consumed.
Can you see how much I *didn't* want to touch him? Clean up was a 2 person job. Again, thank God for grandparents! When they go a couple of months in between visits they become more than happy to help with things like diaper changes and birthday cake baths.
Suffice to say, he was a happy guy.

My goodness, he is such a cute little fatty! Even covered in chocolate cake goo, I want to squeeze and kiss all those rolls on him. Sooooo ridiculously cute. I'm in love. Happy birthday to your little guy!
Oh man, those pictures are awesome! Bruce loved that cake. I can see Reed being that chubby at his first birthday. And I am not surprised at all at Matilda blowing out the candle and stealing it.
